Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My father, who is 70 years old, was diagnosed with fatty liver a few years back. He did not take any medication for that, but he started going on regular walks and concentrated on his diet. Later, whenever he repeated the whole body check-up and completed the blood test, he was not instructed about the same issue. Except that, he has severe joint pains that are in the knee joint. So, he is attending physiotherapy sessions to cure it now. So I want to know
Is fatty liver and hepatomegaly is same?
Can regular walking and diet control cure fatty liver?
Kindly suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Fatty liver and hepatomegaly are related but not the same.
Fatty liver, also known as hepatic steatosis, is a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver. Hepatomegaly refers to an enlarged liver, which can result from various conditions, including fatty liver. Lifestyle modifications are crucial in managing and reversing fatty liver disease.
A healthy diet, maintaining a regular exercise routine, and managing weight can improve liver health. If your father’s full body check-ups and blood tests have not indicated any ongoing liver issues, it suggests that his condition may be under control.
However, it is essential to monitor this regularly with a doctor. Regarding his severe knee joint pains, it's good that he is attending physiotherapy sessions.
Physiotherapy effectively manages joint pain, improves mobility, and strengthens the muscles around the joints. A physical examination by a doctor in a hospital is an obligation.
Feel free to follow up with any questions or concerns about your father's health.
I hope, all your questions are answered.
Thank you.
