How to treat stomach infection in 6.5-year-old child?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 6.5-year-old boy had a stomach infection two days back, and today he complained of a headache. While sleeping, he was restless and shivered a bit with disturbed sleep. I have given him Crocin 0.2 fl oz. I am a single mom, so really worried. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Please check the temperature of the child with a thermometer. The restlessness, headache, and shivering might be due to the start of a fever.

If the fever is below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, there is nothing to worry about. I suggest you only provide warmth to the child. If the fever is between 100 degrees Fahrenheit to 102 degrees Fahrenheit, I suggest you give him Crocin DS (Paracetamol) two teaspoons. If the fever is more than 102 degrees Fahrenheit, I suggest you give Ibugesic plus syrup (Ibuprofen and Paracetamol) two teaspoons. Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.

If the fever is 103 degrees Fahrenheit or more, I suggest you get the child evaluated physically by a pediatrician, and also, blood tests would be advisable based on physical examination.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
