What are the non-surgical options for managing fibroadenoma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old and recently diagnosed with a fibroadenoma with no calcification or vascularity. It is mobile, and I have no pain. I do not want to go for surgery as my age is quite small, so I want to know about it.

  1. Is there any risk associated with it?

  2. Does it become malignant?

  3. Can I have cancer in the future?

I have attached my test reports for your reference.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Regarding your symptoms and diagnosis of fibroadenoma, of course, it will not lead to cancer, as this is rare in most cases. So based on your request to delay or not have surgery, I will advise you to take a tablet of Ulipristal acetate (selective progesterone receptor modulator), five milligrams orally once daily for one month to reduce and relieve heavy vaginal bleeding associated with the fibroid.

Kindly consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
