Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a bar stool fall on my foot six days ago. I initially had pain, bruising where my foot and toes meet and swelling on the top of my foot. Today I still have swelling on the top of my foot, bruising where the toes and top of the foot meet, and now I also have bruising on the side of my foot where the stool did not even fall. Is this normal to have this many days after an injury? I have not been to a doctor about this, but I am concerned that it could be fractured. I can walk on it, but I am only walking on my heel and not trying to put pressure on the part of my foot that the stool fell on since it hurts some. I can send pictures of my foot if needed.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As I can see in the pictures (attachments removed for patient's identity protection), there is swelling and bruising on the outer part of the foot. It has been six days now. So this is unusual to have bruising and swelling if there is no fracture. So most likely, I feel that there is some bony injury. Ideally, you should get an X-ray done. But there is another point here. Even if there is a fracture and you diagnose it on X-rays, the treatment will be conservative. So you can also avoid getting X-rays and wait for swelling and pain to disappear. This may take somewhere around four to six weeks. I hope I have answered your query, and please let me know if there is anything else.

Thank you.
