Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a six-month-old daughter. We are giving her Similac isomil soy infant formula (lactose-free) as a milk substitute two to three times a day. Other times she is fed breast milk only. We are giving this formula milk for the last two to three months. I just want to know whether I can continue with this milk or do we need to change it.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The infant formula you mentioned needs to be given for a specific reason, that is if the baby is having lactose intolerance and a proper diagnosis is made. Or else there is no need for special milk formula.

If your baby is active, passing normal motion, and gaining weight, then I suggest you continue breastfeeding as she is only six months old. You must have started weaning food for her. Baby needs food approximately every three hours at this age. So breastfeed four to five times and give weaning food three times If she is not satisfied or you are not having sufficient breast milk secretion, then give regular formula milk.

Kindly share her birth weight and any other problems like frequent loose motions or vomiting. Share if any stool test has been done.

Thank you.
