Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Please review the images 11 months post-operative, when a dynamic hip screw was inserted five days after the hip fracture. A wait of five days was observed before the initial surgery. Unfortunately, a secondary fracture has occurred due to the hardware, leading to decreased mobility and increased pain. What can be done?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The images you have sent me do not allow me to identify any secondary fracture. Could you please provide more details about your concerns? Are you able to bear weight on that limb? Do you have any recent X-rays available for review?

Please revert back with the answers.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

There is an ununited bone fragment located next to the inferomedial fracture margin. I am able to bear weight, but I experience pain when walking up stairs or carrying my 3-year-old.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

So you are referring to that fracture. Well, that particular fragment is a non-weight-bearing part of the hip and is generally not addressed during surgery. You will continue to see that fragment on X-rays. It holds no significance. If you are able to bear weight, it indicates that your fracture has healed. What does your primary surgeon say about this?

Thank you.
