Patient's Query

Hello Doctor,

I am on my period for the second time this month. My previous period took eight days but it is usually for five days. What could be the problem? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Pandian. P

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This may be due to hormone imbalance, anemia, thyroid problems, or infection due to either urinary tract or pelvic floor response. I suggest you do the following tests:

1) Urine routine and culture test.

2) PAP (protected area permit) smear of vaginal discharge for microbiology and others like cervicitis.

3) Hb (hemoglobin) level and peripheral smear.

4) PT (prothrombin), and coagulation profile.

5) Thyroid profile.

6) Ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis.

This will narrow down your problem. Treatment would be based according to the results of tests. I suggest taking antibiotics, analgesics, and antihistamines along with douching of the vagina with an antiseptic solution and vaginal pessary or ointment for five days. Along with it an important part is partner's treatment. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
