Is it problematic if a woman misses her progesterone shot during a frozen embryo transfer cycle?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I missed a progesterone shot today during my FET (frozen embryo transfer) cycle, and I am currently eight weeks pregnant. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. At eight weeks of gestation, missing a single dose of progesterone is not overly concerning. Please take it as soon as possible. Progesterone is essential until the 12th week of pregnancy when the placenta forms, and external support becomes unnecessary. However, missing one dose should not cause significant harm. It is possible that you are also on a progesterone oral or vaginal supplement, which will help maintain hormone levels and alleviate concerns. Nevertheless, it is important not to discontinue, as discontinuation may lead to spotting or bleeding if not taken for an extended period. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
