Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been reading a lot about fungi and fungal infections lately, especially how they are becoming more common because of climate change. I am a bit worried about this. How serious are these infections? Can they be harmful? I have heard that pathogenic fungi can cause a range of issues, from skin infections to more severe problems like lung infections. With the climate getting warmer, it seems like these fungi are spreading more easily and affecting more people. Is there anything specific I should be doing to protect myself and my family? Are there particular symptoms we should watch out for?
Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Fungal infections can range from mild to severe, and their prevalence is indeed increasing due to climate change, which promotes fungal growth and spread. Skin infections like athlete's foot and ringworm are common, but more serious infections can affect the lungs and bloodstream, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems. For example, invasive fungal infections like aspergillosis or candidiasis can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
