Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
When I eat something, I get gas and start burping and farting, which leads to annoyance in the lower stomach. I just lost a lot of weight. I bulked up from 150 lbs to 201 lbs, and now I have cut down to 173, and when I was bulking, I never had this problem. I have had this problem for at least seven months, and I need this to go away. Currently, I am taking digestive enzymes, Beano, and Dulcolax.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have reviewed your case history in detail.
Weight loss is never considered normal, and I hope, as you mentioned, you have investigated this and there was nothing remarkable on your blood reports. One possibility of your symptoms could be Dysbiosis (abnormal load to harmful bacteria in your gut), for which I would like to suggest the following after consulting your specialist doctor:
1) Add regular probiotics (healthy bacteria) to your diet either take daily yogurt or commercially available probiotics for two to four weeks.
2) Tablet Rifaxamin, either 200 mg three times a day or 550 mg twice daily for seven to ten days (this is a locally acting antibiotic, will not absorb in blood, work as a gut cleaner, and reduce bad bacterial load which causes excessive gas production).
3) Regular acid suppression medicine like tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg a half hour before breakfast for two weeks
4) Continue Antacids syrup like Gaviscon, two tablespoons full after every meal.
5) Avoid eating out; take home-cooked meals.
6) No dietary supplements for gym or weight gain.
7) I hope you do not have any remarkable family history, like gut-related diseases in parents or siblings.
8) No known food or drug allergies.
9) Monitor your weight from now onwards. It should be further investigated if the weight loss is persistent even after this.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply. I will try what you have suggested me. Actually nobody in my family has this other than me. The weight loss was monitored and done very slowly. I will let you know if the medications you have suggested works.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thank you for the consultation.
It is great if there is no remarkable family history related to this issue. If weight loss was slow, monitored, and intentional, then there is nothing to worry. From medical point of view, unintentional weight loss is of concern. Above suggestions and treatment would help you out.
Wishing you excellent health,
Kind regards.
