I have excessive burping for the past 2 months. Why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have excessive burping for two months. I do not have any other symptoms. I consulted a general practitioner and she told me that there is nothing to worry about it. I do not drink carbonated drinks or smoking. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits throughout the day. What to do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This kind of burping is not a health issue unless social life is not disturbed. The common cause of burping is supragastric belching. This occurs due to trapped air in the esophagus. It can come and go frequently as it happens in air spaces while breathing. If you have any respiratory issues or sinus problems, you have to consult a doctor for having some relief. Diaphragmatic breathing is a thing that can be done at home to prevent it. You can search online and train yourself to perform it. Do it every 4 to 6 hours for few days and see for improvement. If there is no improvement, then you can do some further testing.

The Probable causes

You have supragastric belching.
