How to manage GERD symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been dealing with persistent digestive symptoms that I believe may be related to GERD. After meals, I often feel a burning sensation in my chest and throat, and at times it feels like food is coming back up, especially when I lie down or bend over. I also have a history of high blood pressure, for which I am taking medication. Could my medication or condition be contributing to these symptoms? Could we discuss safe and effective treatment options? I would appreciate advice on dietary or lifestyle changes and any medication adjustments that could help manage my symptoms.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I would suggest you try simple things like:

Taking a small walk after having food, eating whole grains, and alkaline foods, avoiding caffeinated drinks, deep-fried food, fast food, etc. Avoid alcohol and smoking if you do. Elevate your head while sleeping. Take food two hours before sleeping. Avoid tight-fitted clothes.

Try these measures, but along with this kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
