What could cause sleep issues and suicidal thoughts?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I struggle to articulate this, but I have been feeling increasingly down lately. I have been dealing with it for six years now. I am experiencing difficulty sleeping, suicidal thoughts, frequent bouts of crying, a persistent feeling of heaviness in my head, and shallow breathing. I often see dark spots and find it hard to focus. My appetite has diminished, and I frequently feel disconnected from reality. I feel utterly helpless. Also, I take sleeping pills for this issue. Kindly guide.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I appreciate you seeking help from a psychiatrist. It seems like you might be dealing with major depressive disorder (MDD). MDD is a mental health condition marked by persistent feelings of sadness, loss of interest, and impaired daily functioning.
I suggest some non-pharmacological strategies that can aid in managing your depression. Here are some guidelines to consider:
-
Engage in daily exercise for 30 to 45 minutes, such as taking a walk.
-
Practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. Find a comfortable position and focus on your breathing without controlling your thoughts.
-
Consume healthy, home-cooked meals and avoid junk food.
-
Ensure you stay hydrated by drinking enough water throughout the day.
-
If you are separated, spend quality time with friends and family in person or through video calls.
-
Pursue creative hobbies like reading, writing, painting, drawing, or learning new skills or languages.
-
Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep each night.
-
Avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any other substances.
-
Embrace life fully and confidently.
Additionally, medication may be necessary to manage your symptoms effectively. I suggest starting with a daily dose of Escitalopram 10 mg after breakfast and Clonazepam 0.5 mg at night if you experience sleep disturbances. Please follow up after four weeks. Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.
I hope this helps.
Please revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
