Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Hope you are doing well.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Male and female pattern baldness may be due to the following reasons:
1. Genetic susceptibility: Chances of hair loss are high when there is a family history of hair loss especially from the maternal end.
2. Hormonal fluctuations: Hair loss called androgenetic alopecia increases when there is a change in the hormonal level which may be higher in men due to higher testosterone levels as compared to women.
3. Other causes of hair loss include stress, the presence of dandruff, the use of hair styling products, the use of hard water for bathing, due to medical conditions like thyroid conditions, and to consumption of drugs like antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.
Male pattern baldness is treated based on their grading. Grades of baldness included Grades 1 to 7:
Grade 1: Little to no hair loss.
Grade 2: Slight receding of hairline from the front.
Grade 3: Moderate receding of hairline from the front and hair thinning on the crown area.
Grade 4 and 5: Increase in receding hairline from the front with an increase in the area of hair loss from the crown area.
Grade 6 and 7: Extreme loss of hair from the front and with the presence of hair only on the back of the scalp.
The female pattern is slightly different:
They start from the midline of the scalp.
Grade 1: Little to no hair loss.
Grade 2: Some loss of hair from midline from front to mid crown area.
Grade 3: Loss of hair from midline with separation of hair with scalp visibility.
Grade 4 and 5: Extreme hair thinning and increased scalp visibility.
Treatment is ideally based on the grade of hair loss.
For hair loss below grade 3:
Medications like Minoxidil (vasodilator) solution from 2 to 10 percent may be used along with multivitamin supplements.
Apart from the same, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) scalp treatment is also ideally suited. This procedure includes using the patient's blood and extracting platelets which are growth factors after spinning the blood sample in a machine called a centrifugal machine. The growth factor is then injected into the scalp using an insulin syringe once a month onto scalp and is usually done for six months.
For hair loss above grade 3:
Hair transplant procedures and PRP scalp with the above medications may be helpful.
Sometimes, derma roller which is equipment with small needles on them are used to roll on the scalp once a month.
Lifestyle changes that are good for stimulating hair growth include:
1. Stress management.
2. Sleep regularization is important.
3. Oil massage once a week. Ideally, three parts of coconut oil, two parts of castor oil, and one part of vitamin E capsule are used after mixing. The combination is used on the scalp, massaged for ten minutes, and to be kept for one hour, and washed off with shampoo.
4. Consuming enough proteins including egg whites, sprouts, soya chunks, and quinoa is important.
Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
