Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have suddenly started having excessive sweating as well as severe hair loss. As a result, I have been on the Spironolactone tablet for hair loss, but I am currently not taking it.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I reviewed your history and understood your concern. This condition may be hyperhidrosis along with severe hair fall, which may occur due to multiple reasons, including genetic susceptibility when there is a transmission of similar conditions from ancestors or parents genetically; they may occur due to hormonal imbalances of fluctuations depending upon the age or external factors as well as internal factors, or due to dietary changes in case of consumption of more oily and fried food, sweets, milk and dairy products, red meat, due to climatic changes in case of extremely hot or extremely cold climates, due to using any medication for any underlying medical conditions, due to seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff, stress, excess sweating, or any gynecological conditions.

So, I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Use Ketoconazole (antifungal) and Zinc Pyrithione shampoo externally on the scalp in case of excessive sweating. Take a teaspoon of shampoo mixed with 1/4 cup of water and apply it on the scalp; massage for one minute to remove any flakes, and it is to be kept for at least five minutes before washing off. The shampoo may be used twice a week, three days apart.
  2. Take tablet Follihair once daily at night.
  3. Use antiperspirant lotion under the arms after cleaning and drying the area.
  4. Also, check for CBC (complete blood count), Hb (hemoglobin), TFT (thyroid function test), serum ferritin, serum iron, and serum zinc levels.
  5. In case of bald patches within the scalp, Rogaine 2 % solution may be used on the scalp, which helps increase the blood circulation within the hair follicles, thereby increasing the hair growth stimulation and reducing the hair fall. To be applied in a very thin layer with a 1 ml quantity of the solution on the affected area of the scalp and massaged into the scalp. It may be used only at night and washed off in the morning. This medication is not advised to be stopped abruptly as in case of abrupt stopping; it might cause a cut off of the blood supply to the head follicles that are increasing the hair fall of the already grown hair. Therefore once the medication started, they may be continuously used for years together. This medication should be avoided in case of a history of migraine or seizures, or other severe medical conditions. They may also be avoided in case of a history of allergy to Minoxidil. This medication should be used continuously for at least one year and then reduced.
  6. Avoid oily and fried food, milk, dairy products, sweets, and red meat, and make sure to increase more fruits, vegetables, fiber, and at least 12 glasses of water in a 250 ml glass size daily.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
