Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a FUT of 2000 grafts eight years back. Initially, I was happy with the result. After a year or so I stopped the medications (Finax 1mg and Mintop). Soon after, I again started balding. Even the transplantation hairs were not visible. So I again visited the doctor. He suggested me to carry on with the medications. My hair has started growing again. But my hair soon started falling again once I stopped using the medications after three years. Hence now I have again started the medications and have been using them for a year or so but this time I am not getting the right result. I am not confident as well as to continue with the medications considering its side effects. I read on the internet but at the same time, I cannot afford to go bald completely. I need a solution to this.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Post hair transplantation, you need to continue Minoxidil indefinitely, while Finasteride can be taken as long as you do not experience any side effects. The response of hair transplant depends upon the strict adherence to these medications. It is very common to lose hair once you stop these treatments. In case you are not finding a satisfactory response to 5 % Minoxidil, you can increase the concentration to 10 %.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

What if I get the side effects after using for a year from now? If I stop taking Finasteride then, I am sure I will start losing all my hairs. I need a permanent solution to this doctor.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The major side effect associated with Finasteride is decrease in libido. However, this is very rarely seen practically and usually occurs only in apprehensive people. The advantage with Finasteride is that it gives escalating results while the results with Minoxidil stagnate after a period of time. However, in case you experience any of the adverse effects wit Finax, you can stop it and continue to use Minoxidil. Minoxidil will help to reduce the hair loss caused by stopping Finax.
