Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old female. I have had alopecia areata with three bald patches for the past three months. I have also been using Minoxidil, Anagram, and Ketoconazole shampoo for a month recommended by a doctor. Now new hairs are coming in the bald patches, but I have severe hair fall. I lose about 200 strands per day and the volume is decreased. I am taking a healthy diet and supplements. What should I do about the hair fall?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

There are many reasons for hair fall or thinning of hair on the scalp. First, we have to find the cause with the help of detailed history and examination. Some of the common causes are nutritional deficiency, hormonal causes like androgenic alopecia or pattern baldness, hypothyroidism, telogen effluvium, etc. Unless we find and treat the cause there is no point in giving non-specific treatment. Oils or shampoos do not have any effect on hair growth as they are not absorbed into the skin.

Kindly send photographs for proper diagnosis and a detailed prescription.

Thank you.
