Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been experiencing hair loss for three years, and my front scalp is not producing new hair. I do not have any dandruff issues or hair fall problems. I have been using Minoxidil hair oil, but I do not see any improvements. My laboratory test reports are all fine.
Kindly help me figure out the problem and how to solve it.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I understand your concerns.
Hair loss occurs due to multiple factors, including:
Genetic factors: Genetic susceptibility is passed on from the maternal line, including maternal uncles or siblings or ancestors.
Dietary factors.
Hormonal fluctuations, including androgenetic alopecia, where the male hormone androgen is imbalanced.
Fungal infections can occur while wearing helmets and caps and spread from an infected individual while sharing belongings.
Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis.
Vitamin deficiencies.
Hair procedures or treatments include smoothening, straightening, creams, gels, or hair colors.
Stress may also be an important factor contributing to hair loss.
As per the history and image provided (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), it appears as male pattern hair loss (MPHL), which has not started showing a complete pattern of hair loss but hair thinning instead.
My advice :
Please undergo these blood tests and share the reports with me so I can guide you further:
Complete blood count.
Hemoglobin (Hb).
Serum iron.
Serum zinc.
Serum vitamin D3.
Serum vitamin B12.
Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS).
Thyroid function tests (TFT).
Antinuclear antibody (ANA).
These tests help diagnose vitamin deficiencies and hormonal imbalances, which, if present, may require additional supplement treatment. Since you have mentioned previously done blood tests, kindly refer to the list and undergo the tests that have not been done previously.
Tablet Follihair (amino acids, vitamins, and minerals) once daily at night after dinner for two months.
They are multivitamin tablets meant for hair growth and reducing hair fall.
They should only be started after providing a blood sample for testing since starting the medication and then providing the blood samples may cause the actual readings of parameters to show false values.
Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.
Minoxidil Finasteride 5 percent solution (Minichek F 5 % solution) is to be applied to the area of hair loss in 1 ml quantity only at night on a clean, dry scalp.
Apply a 1ml quantity using the dropper provided with the medication or three to four sprays, massage into the scalp, and leave it on overnight. Wash off in the morning.
Minoxidil with Finasteride helps increase blood supply and circulation to the hair follicles, stimulating their growth. However, to show changes, they need to be used for years.
Initially, it will be started once daily for one year, then reduced to six times per week for the next year, then five times per week the following year, and so on.
They should not be abruptly stopped, as they may suddenly cut off the blood supply to hair follicles, leading to their loss. Therefore, to get your scalp accustomed, slowly taper down the solution each year.
Avoid usage in case of migraine, seizures, major medical conditions, history of allergies, etc.
Minoxidil solution with Finasteride always requires a minimum usage of at least one year to show results, and should be continued as mentioned above.
Since you have already been using Minoxidil oil, kindly switch to Minoxidil with Finasteride instead for better results.
Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.
Procedures including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), growth factor concentrate (GFC), and mesotherapy done once a month may be helpful for stimulating hair growth.
PRP and GFC are injectables done on the scalp superficially using one's own blood revolved in a centrifugal machine to extract growth factors, helping to stimulate hair growth.
Mesotherapy is the injection of vitamins, done similarly to stimulate hair growth. To undergo the procedure, please consult a dermatologist in person.
Avoid oily food, sweets, dairy products, and red meat. Include protein like eggs in your diet.
Ensure hydration with at least 13 glasses of water (8.4 fluid ounces) a day.
Make sure to manage stress, if any.
Avoid the formation of dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis.
Please follow up with the reports for further assessment and management.
I hope the details were informative and clear.
Kindly revert in case of further queries. Stay happy, healthy, and safe.
