Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter had her first period before the age of 11 years. She was 4 feet and 7.5 inches at the age of 12. Now she is 14 and is of the same height. I am concerned about her height. Will she grow more or her growth plates have been closed?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It is normal for girls to get their period between the ages of eight and 15. So your daughter getting her first period before the age of 11 years is within the normal range. Regarding her height, it is important to keep in mind that genetics plays a significant role in determining height. However, there are other factors that can influence height such as nutrition, exercise, and overall health. Girls typically experience a growth spurt around the time of their first period and continue to grow for about two years thereafter. However, the growth rate can vary from person to person, and some girls may stop growing earlier than others. At the age of 14, your daughter may still have some growth left, as the growth plates in her bones may not have been fully closed yet.

In any case, she needs to focus on the following healthy habits:

  1. Have a well-balanced diet.
  2. Exercise regularly.
  3. Get enough sleep to promote overall health and well-being.
  4. I hope this has helped you.

    Thanks and regards.
