Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My Hb level has been low for the last two years. I was COVID positive, and now all the symptoms have gone, but my CBC shows a Hb level of 7.5 g/dL, platelets 47000 per mm3, WBC is 12100 per mm3, lymphocytes are 46 %. Currently, I am taking tablet Caripill and syrup Ferium. Is there any severe cause behind this? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. The increased WBC count (white blood cell) suggests infection, and you need a course of appropriate antibiotics for that. Your Hb (hemoglobin) levels are low, and if it falls further low to five to six, you will need a blood transfusion. The platelet count is also below normal. It can be due to dengue or other cause. I suggest you get a dengue NS1 (virus nonstructural protein 1) antigen blood test. It will show if you have dengue or not.

For the low Hb, I would suggest you take a proper course of iron tablets after consulting a physician in person. I would also like to know your family medical history in detail. Does anyone in your family have had thalassemia? Or any blood disorder? After careful evaluation, your doctor will prescribe medicines to normalize the levels. I also suggest you include iron-rich food in your diet.

I hope this helps.
