Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Here are my blood test results. Monocyte percentage (20.3%) has gradually increased during the last year. Monocytes: 1.09; creatinine: 1.59. Lymphocyte 1.09. Should I be concerned? I am currently on Losartan and Wellbutrin.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your monocyte cell count has increased over time. It indicates an ongoing chronic infection (bacterial, viral, or parasitic) or autoimmune condition. Could you please tell me if you are suffering from any other medical condition? I could see that you are taking Losartan (angiotensin receptor blockers) (mostly for hypertension), I guess. May I know why you have been prescribed Wellbutrin (norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRIs))? There could be multiple reasons why this medication is prescribed. It is difficult to comment on anything here, as monocytosis alone does not help in diagnosis. It should be looked at with other cell counts. We also need to see the size, shape, and type of other cells appearing in the blood using a test called a peripheral smear test. Also, we need to look at you to see if any of your body organs are enlarged, like the spleen, liver, or lymph nodes. I see that your creatinine is slightly on the higher side. Has it been evaluated further to identify why creatinine is marginally high? There is a huge list of conditions causing high creatinine, and without a detailed history, it is difficult to comment. If you have any more test results, kindly share them for a better diagnosis.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
