Can I live a peaceful life after being diagnosed with HIV?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 23 year old female. I got diagnosed with HIV two weeks back. I am really very depressed. I got this infection when I was accidentally injected with a used needle for another person in a laboratory. I feel like I do not want to live with this disease. How about my future life? Can my partner and kids get this infection? Can taking medications help to keep this infection under control? How to keep this infection at undetectable levels? I want to live a peaceful life like others. Is it possible with this HIV infection? Please tell me some stress-relieving strategies to feel somewhat without depression.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is manageable with antiretroviral therapy, which reduces the virus to undetectable levels, preventing transmission to your partner or future children.
Living a healthy, fulfilling life is entirely possible with consistent treatment and medical care. Focus on a balanced diet, exercise, and regular check-ups. For stress relief, consider counseling, support groups, mindfulness, or hobbies to uplift your mood. Share your feelings with trusted loved ones or a therapist.
You are not alone- many people thrive with HIV. Remember, undetectable = untransmittable (U=U). Take it one step at a time, and prioritize your mental health alongside treatment for a peaceful future.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.
Thank you.
