Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I just found out that I am HIV positive, and I am feeling overwhelmed. My mind feels foggy all the time. I have heard about some experimental drug trials could they help me? I am scared of developing AIDS. How can I manage this? My cousin died from HIV/AIDS, and I do not want to end up like him. Are there any new research breakthroughs? The current medications make me feel so sick. I am worried about my future. Can HIV affect your brain? Please help me understand what is going on, and what my options are
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) can indeed affect the brain, leading to brain fog. This is because the virus can cause inflammation and damage to brain cells over time, a condition known as HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND).
Experimental drug trials hold promise for new treatments. However, participation in clinical trials should be discussed with your treating doctor to understand the potential risks and benefits. Current antiretroviral therapies (ART) are very effective at managing HIV and preventing progression to AIDS, but they can have side effects.
Recent research breakthroughs include long-acting injectables and new classes of drugs that target the virus in different ways. Managing HIV involves regular medical care, adherence to prescribed medications, and monitoring for side effects.
A physical examination by a doctor in a hospital is essential to evaluate your current health status. Get well soon.
I hope this guidance helps you. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance.
Thank you.
