Is Hodgkin's lymphoma a serious cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 30-year-old male misdiagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and have been on an ABVD regime for three cycles. Then seek a second opinion, which turned out to be non-Hodgkin PMBCL even in the first place because the doctor misread the HPE report. Been on the DA-epoch regime for three cycles also. When the PET scan shows a complete metabolic response, no cancer is seen any longer. Do I need to continue my chemotherapy until six cycles and follow the intensive treatment again to achieve complete remission even when the PET scan shows no more cancer in the body?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. I am not sure about your stage of lymphoma. But once they start chemotherapy, it will continue for four cycles. Then, if the PET (positive emission tomography) scan is normal and there is no evidence of any residual disease, you can stop. But my suggestion is if you are tolerating chemotherapy, then better complete six cycles of chemotherapy.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
