How to manage acne that appeared after a miscarriage?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have spots appearing on my face. I have never had spots before. It started three months ago on my face and upper back after my miscarriage. Kindly examine them and tell me what they are.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

I have reviewed the photos (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). These are variants of acne. They can affect the face, back, and shoulders. Hormonal fluctuations can also cause similar features. For this, you need to start some medication. Along with that, avoid excessive sugar and dairy products.

I will start some medications such as Clindamycin gel in the morning, Adapalene gel at night, and Salicylic Acid facewash. You need to follow this regimen for three weeks.

After a duration of three weeks, we will review and manage accordingly. Avoid picking at these lesions, as that will leave a mark.

I hope that this answers your query.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your prompt and detailed response.

One last question, during the miscarriage, I actually needed a blood transfusion. Could it have any relationship or bearing?

Please help.

Thank you.

It is not related to the blood transfusion you received during your miscarriage.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.
