What will help me with acne and dark spot removal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have acne that will not clear, and also dark spots. I have tried different products and natural remedies, but they do not work. It is really affecting my self-esteem. At times, it seems like the acne is clearing, but then I start having breakouts again. Nothing seems to work. Please, I need your help.

Kindly advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I am very sorry about your medical condition, and I am glad that you are paying attention to the changes in your body. Do not worry, we are here to take care of you. Thank you for sharing this. I believe you are experiencing an acneiform eruption with hyperpigmented skin patches.

There can be several possible causes. Some of the causes are described below, and how to approach them beyond temporary fixes:

  1. Hormonal imbalance, especially if acne worsens around your menstrual period, on your jawline or chin, or during stress.
  2. It can be oily skin and clogged pores. If your skin is naturally oily, topical creams alone may not fully manage it.
  3. High sugar, dairy, or processed foods can trigger inflammation in sensitive individuals.
  4. Using harsh products or over-washing can damage your skin barrier.

Your condition can be managed with medicines. I would suggest the following medications:

  1. Topical Tacrolimus 0.2 percent cream.
  2. Topical Clobetasol 0.05 percent ointment, once daily.
  3. Topical Hydrocortisone 0.2 percent cream, twice daily for one month.
  4. Minocycline 100 milligram tablet, orally, twice daily for one week.
  5. Topical Resorcinol 2 percent cream, once daily.
  6. Topical Tretinoin 0.1 percent cream, twice daily.
  7. Topical Azelaic acid 20 percent cream, once daily.
  8. Topical Dapsone 5 percent gel, once daily for one month.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.
