How to prevent outbreaks of immunocompromised diseases?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have an HSV-1 infection with IgG positive and IgM negative.

I want to know:

  1. How can I stay away from immunocompromised and immunosuppressed diseases so that I prevent repeat outbreaks?
  2. How to prevent diabetes and thyroid?
  3. Do diabetes or thyroid worsen the condition or cause repeat outbreaks of HSV?
  4. How can I maintain a healthy lifestyle to be fit and healthy?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The important immunocompromised conditions are HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), diabetes, cancer, steroid medicine, and excessive alcohol intake. The thyroid does not significantly impact immunity unless it is severely deranged. Obviously, for HIV, the most important thing is to avoid multiple sexual partners and others, which I guess is not a problem with you. For diabetes, regular exercise and avoiding weight gain and abdominal obesity through a healthy diet, like avoiding excessive fatty, oily, and sugary diets.

I suggest regular activities like brisk walking and jogging, at least 30 minutes a day and five days a week. Have lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, and fish once or twice weekly. Avoid meat, smoking, and alcohol.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
