Hi doctor,

I have had a query related to my father's high blood pressure for the past six days. He is taking the tablet Avesar at night to control his blood pressure as recommended by our doctor. But he suffers from the side effects of continuous diarrhea and dizziness. We have also done his lipid profile test and blood test according to which, cholesterol level is slightly high, while the blood profile is perfectly normal. I will be very thankful to you if you can suggest some medication for him to control his high blood pressure without the mentioned side effects. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Tablet Asar (Azilsartan medoxomil) is a combination of two types of antihypertensives and Tablet Valsartan (angiotensin II receptor blocker) one of the component is very high. I would suggest a single drug like the tablet Telmisartan (Telmisartan) 40 mg twice daily and see the blood pressure response before adding one more drug. The continuous diarrhea is causing fluid loss and hence giddiness. We have to rule out any infective gastroenteritis and give him good fluid intake. Regards.
