Can avoiding high-protein diets, drinking plenty of water, and taking xanthine oxidase inhibitors help maintain uric acid levels?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My uric acid level has increased to 8.9 mg/dl, as per my test yesterday. The day before yesterday, it was 8.615 mg/dl, and a week prior to that, it was 7.2 mg/dl. I do not consume alcohol and follow a vegetarian diet. I am 28 years old, with a height of 5.6 feet and a weight of 179 pounds. How can I decrease my uric acid level, and what might be the reason for this significant increase? Currently, I am not experiencing any joint pain or related gout complications. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do not worry. This increase appears to be linked to the consumption of a high-protein diet. Make sure to drink plenty of water daily. Engage in regular yoga and pranayama. Avoid high-protein diets and protein supplements. Have your dinner early. I suggest you take tablet Febustat (Febuxostat) 80mg, one tablet per day, and tablet Berberis pentarkan, two tablets three times a day, both for a duration of six weeks. Please provide a follow-up after three weeks.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Please list the protein supplements and protein-rich foods that I should avoid. Additionally, do I need to moderate my sugar intake even though I am not diabetic? I have started taking Febustat 40mg tablets since yesterday. Should I switch to Febustat 80mg? Regarding Tab Berberis pentarkan, do I need to take two tablets three times a day, totaling six tablets per day? Should these be taken after meals or before meals? Also, could you provide information about foods that can help lower my uric acid levels?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Avoid high-protein diets like sprouts and legumes. Incorporate drumsticks regularly into your meals. Focus on consuming salads and fruits more often. Aim to have dinner before 8 p.m. There is no need to reduce your carbohydrate intake. Take 80 mg of Febustat daily. Take Tab Berberis pentarkan, two tablets twice a day, for a total of six tablets. Chew these tablets either before or after meals, as it suits you. There are no issues with timing. Recheck your serum uric acid levels after six weeks.

Thank you.
