Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 22-year-old female. This week, I started noticing very light patches on my face. I am naturally fair, but these patches do not match my normal skin tone. I think it may be because of a face cream I used last week, but I have stopped using it. I am currently using a kojic soap, a vitamin C serum, and an aloe vera moisturizer. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It sounds like you may be experiencing post-inflammatory hypopigmentation (lighter patches that appear after the skin becomes irritated or inflamed) or irritation-related depigmentation. This can happen when the skin reacts to certain cosmetic products, especially those that contain strong lightening or exfoliating ingredients. Since you mentioned using a face cream shortly before these light patches appeared, it is quite possible that the product caused irritation or a chemical reaction leading to uneven skin tone.
It is good that you have stopped using that cream. For now, focus on gentle skin care and avoid harsh or bleaching products. Reduce the use of kojic soap or strong serums until your skin barrier heals. Continue using your aloe vera–based moisturizer because it helps soothe and repair the skin. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) during the day, as sun exposure can worsen pigmentation differences.
If the patches persist for more than a few weeks, or if you notice redness, scaling, or itching, please consult again for further evaluation.
I hope this helps you.
Kindly revert if there are any queries.
Thank you.
