Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 36 years old. I have been dealing with hypothyroidism for quite some time now, and have been taking Thyronorm medication for years. While my dosage has been relatively stable, it did fluctuate during my pregnancy and breastfeeding period. However, since I stopped breastfeeding a year ago, I have noticed my thyroid levels fluctuating again, along with excessive hair fall. My doctor advises taking the medication early in the morning on an empty stomach and waiting two hours before consuming anything else. However, this poses a challenge for me as I rely on my morning coffee immediately upon waking up. Is there a way to manage this? Additionally, I am interested in exploring yoga practices or supplements that could potentially help regulate my thyroid function. I am also concerned about the long-term effects of medication. Could being on it for an extended period be harmful? Are there any alternative treatments I should consider? Furthermore, do I need to undergo any scans or tests to rule out thyroid cancer? I would greatly appreciate your guidance on these matters.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hi
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Concerning your thyroid medication and exploring alternative management options for your condition:
It is advisable to take your medication first thing in the morning, but a 30 to 60 minute window should suffice, rather than the suggested two-hour gap.
Could you kindly provide your thyroid function test reports along with any recent adjustments to your medication? This information would offer valuable insight into your clinical status.
Incorporating exercise into your routine can significantly support your metabolism and overall well-being. Both yoga and cardio exercises are recommended in this regard.
Once your medication dosage has been optimized, it is advisable to undergo annual thyroid function blood tests to monitor your progress and ensure effective management of your condition.
I hope this information will help.
Thank you.
