How do I manage hair on my whole body?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a problem and want to get rid of the hair on my whole body with one treatment, but I have not found a solution for 15 years.
The hair on my body makes me feel isolated, and I struggle to talk to people. I am wondering if you can recommend some kind of surgery that can permanently remove the hair.
I feel like I am close to my limit and afraid of losing everything in life. I feel very bad.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I am really sorry that you have been feeling this distressed about your body hair. When something affects your self-confidence for many years, it can feel overwhelming, especially if it causes you to withdraw socially. I am glad you reached out.
First, I want to say something very clearly. There is no single surgery that can permanently remove all body hair in one treatment. Hair grows from millions of follicles across the body, and there is no safe surgical method to eliminate them all at once.
The most effective medical option for significant long-term reduction is staged full-body laser hair reduction using devices such as long-pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) lasers or diode lasers. These typically require six to ten sessions and can reduce hair density by 70 to 90 percent, though not completely in one sitting. Electrolysis is permanent for individual follicles but is impractical for treating the entire body.
Since you are already taking Aripiprazole (abilify), it is very important to discuss the emotional distress this is causing with your psychiatrist. Severe preoccupation with body hair and social isolation may benefit from psychological support such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) alongside dermatologic treatment.
Medically, body hair in adult males is often genetic and normal. While reduction is possible, your worth and social value are not determined by hair. This can be approached step by step with both dermatologic care and mental health support, and improvement is absolutely achievable.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach out to me again if you have further queries.
Thank you.
