Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My mother has fluid discharge from the ear. What could be the reason?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for your query.
The history you give is suggestive of a chronic infection of the middle ear. Does she also feel a drop in the hearing? Middle ear infections present usually with ear discharge. Blood from the ear may be due to infection or due to trauma to the ear. Your mother needs to get a physical examination of the ears to see if there is any hole in the eardrum. She will need further hearing testing and other tests based on the ear findings. In the meantime; ensure that water does not enter the ear.
Hope this helps.
