How to bring the insulin-like growth factor level to normal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Last year, I was diagnosed with a tumor in my pituitary gland. It was surgically treated six months back. Before surgery, my insulin-like growth factor 1 levels were around 1300, and after surgery, it dropped to 500. How to bring it to a standard level? Please help me with this, doctor.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is an excess production of growth hormones despite pituitary resection surgery. I suggest you take (consult with a specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Bromocriptine 1.25 mg once a week until the growth hormone level becomes normal. Also, check the insulin-like growth factor 1 levels every week and let me know about the progress.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your response.

1) When is the right time to take tablet Bromocriptine 1.25 mg?

2) Are there any side effects?

3) Does it normalize the insulin-like growth factor 1 levels?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

1) You can take medicine anytime during the day.

2) Side effects are cold, mild nausea, mild headache, dizziness, weakness, and constipation. Hopefully, it should become normal but should be followed up for dose titration every four weeks.

3) It will definitely lower the insulin-like growth factor levels.

Thank you.
