Can a person with missing teeth undergo Invisalign?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am looking for clear aligners and have a couple of questions. The first issue is I have a missing last molar on the right upper side of my mouth. Secondly, I still have both of my upper wisdom teeth. They do not hurt and my dentist recommended not to remove them if there was no discomfort. There is spacing in my upper teeth, so I wanted to resolve this problem with invisible braces. Would I be an ideal candidate for invisible aligners?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

If you have an unerupted third molar in the lower two quadrants, then you first have to confirm if they are impacted or if they are yet to erupt. If third molars are impacted, then it is a serious problem and you cannot go for invisible braces. If third molars are not impacted and yet to erupt, then it is not a problem. You can have your treatment done. The upper molars are not a problem.

Please visit an orthodontist so that he can recommend you the complete treatment plan.

I hope this was helpful.

Thanks and regards.
