This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having itching in the vulval area. I had sex, and I think it is because of friction. It has been two to three days. We had it a week before.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Thanks for being open. It is possible that the vulval itching could be due to friction or irritation from sex, especially if there was not enough lubrication or there was a lot of rubbing. But since it has been a few days and it is still bothering you, here are a few possibilities to keep in mind:

Possible causes:

1. Friction or irritation from sex.

2. Mild allergic reaction (condoms, lubricants, soaps, etc.).

3. Yeast infection (itching is a major symptom and may follow sex or antibiotic use).

4. Bacterial vaginosis (can cause itching and changes in discharge).

5. STIs (sexually transmitted infections) like chlamydia, trichomoniasis, or herpes (especially if itching is intense or there is discharge or blisters).

What you can do now:

  1. Keep the area dry and clean. Wear cotton underwear.

  2. Avoid any scented products, douching, or tight clothing.

  3. If the itch continues or gets worse, see a gynecologist. They can swab and check for infections.

  4. If it is just friction, it should settle in a couple of days or more.

Are you experiencing any discharge, burning when you pee, swelling, or cuts or bumps?

That information would help narrow things down.

I hope this answers your query.

Let me assist you further.

Thank you.
