What is the treatment for a persistent itch?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had this itchy, red, inflamed rash for over a week or two, and I thought it was from sleeping sweat, but I had it before I went to Bali, and still it remains. I have tried scabies cream, but I think I need steroid cream. I tried the over-the-counter cream also. Could you let me know what it is and how to treat it?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It does not look like scabies. Most probably, it is eczematous, a kind of allergic condition. For this, I will add some steroid-based ointment. I will add two creams to be mixed and applied twice daily over the affected area. Along with that, I will add one antihistamine to be taken twice daily for symptomatic relief from itching. The most probable cause of this eczema is dryness, along with weather conditions. Take Tablet Bilashine 20 mg twice daily for three weeks. Apply Tenovate cream mixed with Moisturax soft cream twice daily.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

The local doctor here did not think that it was scabies, but told me that it was insect bites, and that cream was appropriate, but I thought it was allergic dermatitis and needed steroid cream. It has not improved in the couple of days using scabies cream. He said dark spots are age marks, not cancer.

Thanks.
