What can cause widespread itching for two weeks?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For the past two weeks, I have been experiencing itching on my legs (from thigh to feet) and also on my scalp, the back of the neck, and behind the ears. The itching reduced after a week, but has started again now.

Here are some details that may help:

  1. The itching comes and goes, but it is moderate both during the day and at night.
  2. I am not sure which food is causing this. In the last two weeks, I ate mutton, chicken, peanuts, brinjal, and eggs.
  3. The itchy areas appear in multiple spots.
  4. No other major symptoms.

Could you please advise what might be causing this and what I should do next?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

This is acute urticaria. This is a kind of allergic condition that can be triggered by anything from food to medicine or environmental factors. There is no specific test to rule out a specific allergen in this condition. In general, we avoid painkillers, seafood, Chinese food, and any food with preservatives.

Along with that, I will start some medicine for this allergy to be taken twice daily. Continue the medication for three weeks minimum. After that, we will gradually reduce the dosage. Start tablet Dazit (Desloratadine) 5 mg twice daily for three weeks.

I hope that this answers your query.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
