Is treatment with tablet Aspirin safe for a 5-year-old with kawasaki disease?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 5-year-old son has been diagnosed with kawasaki disease. His doctor has suggested him to take tablet Aspirin and another injection. However, we have read about a syndrome that affects kids after taking tablet Aspirin. What is the name of the injection that his doctor has suggested? How serious is his condition? Can we leave him untreated, or should we opt for a treatment?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Yes, I suggest your son takes tablet Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) as recommended by your doctor for treating kawasaki disease. It is toxic only at very high doses. Also, the injection suggested is an immunoglobulin that must be taken. There is nothing to worry about.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
