Hello doctor,
My weight is 175 pounds, and my height is 5 feet 8 inches. I do not have any significant health issues. However, about a year ago, I started experiencing fatigue and was on multivitamins. The fatigue would keep recurring. I had my hormones checked and could not find any problem.
A few months ago, I started having bone soreness and slight back pain. I would experience pins and needles throughout my body, restless leg syndrome, muscle twitching, and brain fog. My blood test revealed I was deficient in vitamin D. My doctor prescribed me vitamin D2 50000 IU 1.25 mg. I have been receiving at least an hour of sunshine every day, and the medication is to be taken once a week.
I have been taking it for five weeks now. I have not noticed any major improvements. I still have all the symptoms. The vitamin I was prescribed is vitamin D2. I have read that vitamin D3 is better for raising the levels. How much vitamin D would I need per day? My vitamin D level was 28.5 ng/mL last month, which was classified as deficient. I want to feel better.

I understand your concern.
Your vitamin D levels are not very low to have symptoms like restless leg syndrome (RLS). Low levels of iron and potassium can be the reason. I suggest you eat more fruits like bananas to help with restless leg syndrome.
Also, RLS symptoms can be relieved by using OTC (over-the-counter) pain relievers such as tablet Ibuprofen, tablet Acetaminophen, tablet Gabapentin enacarbil (Horizant), or tablet Pregabalin. Sometimes, anxiety and depression can cause RLS. I suggest you consult a counselor or psychiatrist. Also, I suggest you avoid caffeine, do stretching exercises, get a gentle massage, and get adequate sleep.

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient. An insufficient calcium intake can lead to low levels of vitamin D. Also, vitamin D3 is more easily absorbed when compared to vitamin D2 and lasts longer in the body. Fish, eggs, and fortified milk are good sources of vitamin D.
The daily requirement of vitamin D is 600 IU (15 mcg) for an average adult. I suggest you take the tablet Shelcal 500 mg (Calcium and Cholecalciferol) once daily after food. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and start the medicines with their consent.
