What steps should be taken to manage loneliness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Loneliness is the only issue I am facing in my life. My two daughters got married and settled in a neighboring country. I also lost my husband six years back. This loneliness is killing me a lot. How do I keep myself engaged and motivated in life? I do not even like to eat food. I am also having cardiac issues and pleural effusion, for which I have been hospitalized five months back. No happiness in my life. Please guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

I appreciate you signing up on icliniq.com.

You now have exclusive access to expert medical opinion.

If possible, shift to one of your daughter's places. If they have children, help raise them. Another thing you can do is, participate in activities near your place. If there is any group of your age, any geriatric group, please join it. Try to keep a pet by your side, such as birds like parrots, who require less care. Find some activities that you like to do, like painting.

I hope you are taking medicine for cardiac issues, and that pleural effusion can be treated. If you are having trouble understanding your medicine, I can help you.

Please do not feel alone, there is so much to do in this world that you can initiate. Try to start your own online channel, where you can find many friends.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help later.

Thank you.
