How to control excessive and compulsive masturbation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old male. I have excessive and compulsive masturbation and I feel pathetic throughout the rest of the day after I do it. It started 5 years back when I was in the middle of puberty. Slowly what seemed to be fun became a compulsion and habit. The symptoms I observe are that I cannot resist the urge and have control over my behavior. I am not under any other medication as of now. How to control this behavior?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. You have to be strong to fight your compulsion. First do not try to stay alone, always stay with someone, so you avoid masturbation. Be busy with your schedule. Divert yourself in various other activities. Do exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes, do meditation for 15 minutes, and spend time on your good creative hobbies like reading good books, writing your thoughts, learning or playing new musical instruments or language or new skills, playing outdoor sports, etc. Do not be overstressed by anything. Do not feel guilty about masturbation. It is normal until it becomes your compulsion and making problems or interferes with your routine life. Doing masturbation once a day is not making any problem but if you have to do masturbation daily then it is a problem.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
