Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 21-year-old. His weight is 130 lbs, and his height is 6'6''. He has been having difficulty with memory and getting direction and information properly. I did a neurotransmitter test for him. The result came gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) 1.04, serotonin 54.36, and glutamate 10.34 which is low. What kind of treatment does he need? Will vitamins be sufficient? Does he need medication? Where can I get help for him? What kind of doctor will treat this? He was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by a doctor, but others said he does not have it.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. These findings indicate low neurotransmitters (serotonin, GABA) which may be responsible for his problems. These findings could also indicate anxiety or depression. I suggest doing complete blood count and checking thyroid hormone levels. Considering his young age, I would first recommend taking a multivitamin supplement daily and performing a lot of physical activity (aerobics, recreational sports, running, etc.). Consulting with a psychotherapist can help too. If these tips do not improve his situation, I would recommend consulting with a psychiatrist. An antidepressant may be needed. I hope to have been helpful.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
