Patient's Query

Hello, Doctor,

So far, I have no idea what to do about this matter. I keep having a continuous flow of vaginal bleeding, even though I am not menstruating at this point in time. There is no feeling of pain at all. I am 19 years old. I weigh 110.231 pounds. Please tell me what happened and why this happened.

I would appreciate your assistance.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your question and understand your concern.

Even in the absence of discomfort, bleeding or discolouration is not anything to ignore. The most likely diagnosis is abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), which is defined as bleeding between periods, following intercourse, or at random times. In teens, this is usually caused by hormone imbalance or irregular ovulation, especially if your periods have not always been extremely regular.

Because you mentioned heavy bleeding after sex, there are a few other important possibilities.

Hormonal imbalance is the most common at your age. At 19, your hormones can still cause irregular shedding of the uterine lining, leading to light spotting or bleeding between periods, even without pain.

Cervical irritation or a small tear from sex can happen; as a result, you can experience bright red blood without pain. This leads to,

  • A small vaginal tear.

  • Cervical irritation.

  • Dryness, or friction.

  • Infection of the cervix.

Pregnancy-related bleeding can cause this. Since you had sex, it is important to rule out pregnancy, including early pregnancy loss or ectopic pregnancy, even if the bleeding is light.

Infection or STI (sexually transmitted infection) can also cause this. Sometimes infections like chlamydia can cause spotting after sex and may not always be painful.

You should see a doctor or gynecologist within the next few days for the following tests.

  • Pregnancy test (urine or blood).

  • Pelvic exam.

  • STI screening.

  • Ultrasound.

  • Blood test if bleeding has been ongoing.

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
