How can I regulate my menstruation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I would like to know how I can regulate my menstruation. I have been irregular since then, and I had a history of hyperthyroidism in the past. I usually skip one or two months of not getting a period, but recently, it has been more than three months. I already got pregnancy tests, and turns out negative. I am also concerned about gaining weight and having a hard time losing weight.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

We need first to find out the cause of irregular periods for the regularisation of periods. For that, I would like you to go for blood beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin). If it comes out to be negative, then you should go for withdrawal bleeding. I advise you to take the tablet Dydrogesterone 10 mg two times a day for seven days and wait for your periods till 10 days. Then, these tests on the second cycle in 10 to 12 hours of fasting serum insulin, TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), and Prolactin. Ultrasound of abdomen for pelvic pathology on 12th of menses.

Meanwhile, I suggest you eat healthily and modify your lifestyle with a 20- to 30-minute brisk walk daily. Show the reports to me. I will guide you further after the reports.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
