This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello, Doctor,

I feel anxious because I have been suffering from spotting and menstrual bleeding for the past two months. The spotting is not heavy, but it is persistent and continuous, such that I have to wear sanitary towels. Is this something serious, and what could be the possible causes?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You are a 32-year-old woman who has been having spotting for two months. This is abnormal, and you need to have yourself examined by a doctor as this is abnormal uterine bleeding.

There are possible causes that include

  • Hormonal imbalances.
  • Issues during pregnancy, like miscarriage at an early stage or ectopic pregnancy.
  • Uterus and cervical infections.
  • Problems in the thyroid gland.
  • Uterine fibroids and uterine polyps.

Underweight body relative to one’s height may itself be a cause of irregular periods and spotting. rephrase it

I would suggest the following steps for you:

  • Testing for pregnancy as soon as possible in case you suspect that you are pregnant.
  • Having blood work done, especially hemoglobin levels and thyroid tests.
  • Performing an ultrasound of pelvic to check your uterus and ovaries.
  • See your gynecologist for a thorough physical exam.

You need to visit a doctor if you have the following problems,

  • There is heavy bleeding.
  • You feel dizzy, weak, or even faint.
  • You have severe lower abdominal pain.

Treatment depends on the cause. The use of hormonal medicines can be used to regulate bleeding. Infections can be treated with medicines, while nutritional changes with proper weight gain can be helpful as well.

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
