What causes delayed menstruation?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 18 years old, and my periods have always been irregular, usually arriving before the expected date. However, this month, my period has not arrived yet, and I do not remember the exact date of my last period since I was not tracking it at that time.
This is the first time my period has been delayed instead of coming early. I am unsure about what to do now and would like to understand if this is normal or if there is anything I should be concerned about.
I have not noticed any major lifestyle changes, but I would like to know if there is anything specific I should track or any steps I should take. I just feel like I am about to get my period, but it still has not come.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Based on your symptoms, it appears that you may be experiencing delayed menstruation either due to a hormonal imbalance or the possibility of pregnancy.
I recommend the following tests:
- Hormone profile test.
- Pregnancy Test.
I suggest the following medication to help regulate your menstrual cycle:
Medroxyprogesterone (Progestins) – 10 mg, one tablet by mouth once daily for one month. Only to be taken after approval by your treating physician.
Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
