Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been tracking my menstrual cycle using a period application, which predicted my period would start on February 19. Today is February 25, and my period has not arrived yet. I have taken a pregnancy test twice, and both results were negative. However, my period is still delayed. I am concerned about what could be causing this delay. Could it be due to stress, hormonal changes, or another underlying issue? Please advise on what steps I should take next.
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
If your period is delayed by six days and you have had two negative pregnancy tests, there could be several possible reasons for the delay.
Possible causes of delayed periods:
Anxiety, travel, or sudden changes in diet and sleep can impact your menstrual cycle. Conditions like PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) or thyroid disorders may delay periods. Being sick or starting new medications can disrupt your cycle. Sudden weight loss or gain may affect ovulation and menstruation. Sometimes, ovulation does not occur, leading to a missed or delayed period. Intense physical activity can impact your cycle. If conception occurred late, hCG levels might still be too low for detection.
What should you do next?
If your period does not start, take another pregnancy test in three to five days using first-morning urine. If your period is more than two weeks late, a blood test (Beta-hCG) and ultrasound can help rule out pregnancy and identify other causes. If you experience bloating, cramps, breast tenderness, or unusual discharge, inform your doctor. Manage stress, eat a balanced diet, and maintain a healthy weight.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thanks.
