Patient's Query
Hello doctor, I have been dealing with crippling migraines for almost a year now. They always start with tingling in my left arm, then tunnel vision, followed by excruciating pain on the right side of my head that feels like someone's drilling into my skull. The pain typically lasts from 36 to 48 hours, completely incapacitating me. I have noticed they often happen after drinking wine or during periods of high stress at work. The Sumatriptan helps somewhat but makes me extremely nauseated and dizzy. These attacks are coming five to six times monthly now, and I have had to take unpaid leave twice. I have tried eliminating caffeine, keeping consistent sleep schedules, and meditating without much improvement. My father suffered similar headaches throughout his life. Is there something preventative I could take daily? Could these be related to the concussion I had playing football in college? I am desperate for something that works. Please help. Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Thanks for your question on icliniq.com. I have gone through the detailed history you have given. Based on your history and description, we have to add migraine maintenance therapy. So, start Propranolol with a Flunarizine combination once a day at night before going to sleep. This will definitely help in reducing Sumatriptan's need.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
