Can Rimegepant really relieve my migraine symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been struggling with migraine for years, and my neurologist has suggested Rimegepant as a potential treatment. Can you provide detailed information on how it works to alleviate migraine symptoms, the expected onset of relief, and any potential side effects? Additionally, are there lifestyle adjustments or precautions I should be aware of while incorporating Rimegepant into my migraine management plan?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Rimegepant is a CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide) antagonist. It is a pain reliever specific for migraine, which does not cause vasoconstriction. Its onset is as early as 15 minutes, can last up to two hours, and can be used for acute migraines. Known side effects still pertain to the gastrointestinal tract or you may feel nauseous. Avoid triggers of migraine such as too much salt, MSG (monosodium glutamate), dehydration, hunger, and sleep deprivation.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
